Assume responsibility for their own learning can be a challenge for students. This is especially a problem when they are in a school system that grew up on a test priority over federal standards. in this type of learning environment, it is customary for teachers to teach the test and the emphasis on the basic level of practice, even in multiple choice tests to translate. Overcoming the economic incentives for this type of instruction is not trivial.

It is a legitimate question to ask, why make the effort? Why a teacher who seeks to make money living in the system to encourage students should take more responsibility for their learning? If the education system in question, a professor of history at the direction of this approach, with both teachers and students, and an administration that performance on standardized tests through ongoing funding is identified unpopular .

The short answer is, of course, that the modern world does not really care about our objective tests and are sources of funding, but also rewards those who actively take the initiative and develop personal responsibility, the ‘inquiring mind. 30 years ago, everything was good to beat the education of any sign of individuality of our students, and support the industry need time for a worker population in line and obedient drone. Although different people have different opinions “education” and its value, I don`t know who agree Wouldn`t that “learning more” is better know as “knowing less”.

Education, when I referred to in this article, the school, seminars, workshops and all kinds of formal approaches, as well as coaching, mentoring, learning, focused reading, learning, experience includes planning and much more. If you read this, I ask you to think about your broad and expansive definition of education.

No matter how you feel about “formal” and regardless of the many examples we could cite people with PhD’s who skipped or sixth grade, which is lower than achieved the highest level, it is difficult “to argue with the premise in a way that education is a wise investment.

You may ask, why write this book when I feel that everyone agrees with the basic premise?

Two reasons: I would like to think about what education and learning systems, and I want to convince / remind you expand on that “no discussion on the” other “youth or outside of work by example, but it comes to us all.
